Terence
A scholarly digital facsimile edition of Oxford, Bodleian Library MS
Auct F. 2. 13, the Six Latin Comedies of the Roman playwright Terence
(2c BCE). This deluxe Romanesque manuscript has an illustration before
each scene of the plays, so that there are approximately 145 drawings.
The late-Antique style of the exemplar, reflected in the still visible
'underdrawings' for each illustration (and in most of the other illustrated
witnesses), has been modernised by the twelfth-century artists. This
facsimile edition will contain a detailed study of the underdrawings
and the way in which they have been adapted by the 'modern' 12c artists.
The DVD will also contain an historical introduction and codicological
analysis of the manuscript, the complete texts and translations hyperlinked
to extremely high resolution images, an extensive bibliography, external
images of the binding, and a series of comparanda from the other illustrated
witnesses. This will be Volume 2 in the new Bodleian Digital Texts Series;
it is scheduled for release in mid 2007.
